Gimme Shelter

For me, the Stones' music always has a Thelemic quality.

Here's one of my faves, the sublime 'Gimme Shelter' a really kicking live version. This is the best quality video of it I could find.

Is it just my perception or is there something very Babalonian about the backing singer?

  1. Saw the Stones a few years ago, and had a front row seat, so yes, there's a power to Jagger that is pretty undeniable when you make eye contact with the man when he's singing. He is a shaman.
And don't forget Altamont and La Vey's ritual to end the hippy era, and Jagger's deliberate courting of the dark side. Something took the Stones over, and effectively ended the hippy era that day, and they weren't all that in charge of it. Definitely a conduit for something... It's spooky stuff once you investigate the weird 'inner realms' history of it.

  2. Certain bands just have that quality to transmit psychic or spiritual energy, as you know! We share a few similar interests there in our musical tastes.. The Doors were always that for me. I have had many kundalini awakenings listening to the Doors! Jim Morrison knew how to do it more consciously than Jagger, I feel. Although Jagger definitely did it too.
